![]() Since it needs to please its advertisers, YouTube has rules in place over what kind of content can be monetized, something which caused a huge backlash last year alongside claims of censorship.īut what if there was an alternative to YouTube, one that doesn’t impose the same kinds of restrictions on uploaders? Enter BitChute, a BitTorrent-powered video platform that seeks to hand freedom back to its users. “The idea comes from seeing the increased levels of censorship by the large social media platforms in the last couple of years. Bannings, demonetization, and tweaking algorithms to send certain content into obscurity and, wanting to do something about it,” BitChute founder Ray Vahey informs TorrentFreak. “I knew building a clone wasn’t the answer, many have tried and failed. And it would inevitably grow into an organization with the same problems anyway.”Īs seen in the image below, the site has a familiar layout for anyone used to YouTube-like video platforms. It has similar video controls, view counts, and the ability to vote on content. It also has a fully-functioning comment section. Of course, one of the main obstacles for video content hosting platforms is the obscene amounts of bandwidth they consume. Any level of success is usually accompanied by big hosting bills. But along with its people-powered philosophy, BitChute does things a little differently. Instead of utilizing central servers, BitChute uses WebTorrent, a system which allows people to share videos directly from their browser, without having to configure or install anything. Essentially this means that the site’s users become hosts of the videos they’re watching, which slams BitChute’s hosting costs into the ground. “Distributed systems and WebTorrent invert the scalability advantage the Googles and Facebooks have. The bigger our user base grows, the more efficiently it can serve while retaining the simplicity of the web browser,” Vahey says. “Also by the nature of all torrent technology, we are not locking users into a single site, and they have the choice to retain and continue sharing the files they download. That puts more power back in the hands of the consumer where it should be.” WEBTORRENT ALTERNATIVES TORRENT ![]() The only hints that BitChute is using peer-to-peer technology are the peer counts under each video and a short delay before a selected video begins to play. ![]() This is necessary for the system to find peers but thankfully it isn’t too intrusive.Īs far as we know, BitChute is the first attempt at a YouTube-like platform that leverages peer-to-peer technology. It’s only been in operation for a short time but according to its founder, things are going well. “As far as I could tell, no one had yet run with this idea as a service, so that’s what myself and few like-minded people decided. To put it out there and see what people think. So far it’s been an amazingly positive response from people who understand and agree with what we’re doing,” Vahey explains. ![]() “Just over three weeks ago we launched with limited upload access on a first come first served basis. We are flat out busy working on the next version of the site I have two other co-founders based out of the UK who are supporting me, watch this space,” he concludes.Ĭertainly, people will be cheering the team on. Last September, popular YouTuber Bluedrake experimented with WebTorrent to distribute his videos after becoming frustrated with YouTube’s policies. “All I want is a site where people can say what they want,” he said at the time. “I want a site where people can operate their business without having somebody else step in and take away their content when they say something they don’t like.”įor now, BitChute is still under development, but so far it has impressed Feross Aboukhadijeh, the Stanford University graduate who invented WebTorrent.

![]() Someone mentioned about lathe tooling swaps. Let's say a high dollar custom saw or facemill? Do the trick here as well. ![]() trust me though, it's more "worry free" in a capto for accuracy. Yes, you can argue that by saying "just use a ER collet or cheapo sidelock". even a machine with a capto spindle like some mill/turn machines out there. If you were to mount this on a capto adapter, you can now swap this tool acroos your 40 taper, HSK, 50 taper, a lathe. Now I might buy one head per app but most smaller guys can't afford that. So, say you have a high dollar digital boring head. If this tool was on a capto mount, you now have the option to run it in any machine you want that you have the basic holder for. Effectively, you could have a number of "special" tools or just simple high dollar tools that you need to run on various machines. To answer Milacron's question on cost advantage from the first post. I think it's more of repeatability issue grinding in high volumes over and over and over again to be marketable. There was no problem of that in the '80s or earlier. They are precise but I don't really think it was a matter of being able to grind one. but Capto is for sure one of my favorites. The investment can be fairly heavy in the beginning but as you build up your "inventory", what you need down the road for other jobs don't carry the tooling cost anymore. It's like any new system you put into place. Just remember that the initial costs are up front (or "start up" as we say). Most people/places get real freaked out by the costs of such tooling. but what can't? By far though, the system is the most stable to take 'abuse'. Now the question, "will a capto break"? Of course. even to the amazement of Sandvik with cuts I'm able to take. I still like using long "solid" holders (not talking about side locks here) but I'm not afraid to set up long capto tool either. Couple this connection with "devibe" bars from Teeness, the cabability of the Capto system is huge from light to HD cutting and all sorts of accuracy ranges to boot. It is a very strong connection type, very accurate and even can solve some harmonic issues (which most modular systems can just by nature of connections). CAPTO.Ĭapto is still licensed by Sandvik but there are plenty of licensed builders including: Walter and Seco (of course), Rego-Fix, BIG (Kaiser, Daishowa), Kennametal, Ingersoll, Nikken, Schunk. I'm sure a lot of you have seen videos I've posted over the years and one thing is evident. Other modular systems just don't compare. Using C8 and even C6 tools on a 50 taper machining centre, the 50 taper is the weakest link.Ĭapto has saved my ass numerous times and has very much been a standard for my tooling selection over more years than I can count. To think that that multi-piece bar, taking that cut, is connected to the turret with a coupling that is barely two inches long, is absolutely amazing to my mind. ![]() The boring bar is a C6 bar with a SL coupling head and a C6 extension in a C6 (cam operated draw bar) block mounted on the OD of the turret. ![]() It's drilled 225mm deep with a 100mm udrill, then bored out to 240mm for the same depth. I have one production job that I run pretty regularly from 16" 4145H bar. It's useful in a machining centre, by way of allowing you to build a tool tailored for the job at hand with excellent concentricity and rigidity.īut where it really shines is in a lathe, for the reasons that ewlsey gave above, but also for the sheer rigidity (have I used that word enough yet?) it provides. As someone who runs more capto tools than not, in all our machines, here's my take on it.Ĭapto's strengths are rigidity, accuracy, repeatability and torque transmission. ![]() ![]() But why is that the case, and why do we need this guidance? Explanation We should expect that standard library code should be as performant and correct as possible. PEP 8, the official Python style guide for Python code in Python's standard library, asserts:įor sequences, (strings, lists, tuples), use the fact that empty sequences are false. It will test False if it is empty, and True otherwise. Place the list in a boolean context (for example, with an if or while statement). How do I check to see if a is empty? Short Answer: This will make the x.size check work in all cases I see on this page.įor example, if passed the following: a = We usually even just use the same name, as the conversion to an array won't make it back outside of the current scope: x = numpy.asarray(x, dtype=numpy.double) So it's very quick whenever it can be, and it ensures that you just get to assume the input is a NumPy array. This takes your input, does nothing if it's already an array, or wraps your input into an array if it's a list, tuple, etc., and optionally converts it to your chosen dtype. There are a few nice functions for doing this quickly - most importantly numpy.asarray. If you need to do more than just check if the input is empty, and you're using other NumPy features like indexing or math operations, it's probably more efficient (and certainly more common) to force the input to be a NumPy array. Not very "pythonic", but it turns out that NumPy intentionally broke pythonicity in at least this sense. If you're not sure whether it might be a list, a NumPy array, or something else, you could combine this approach with the answer gives to make sure the right test is used for each type. The numpythonic wayĪs explained in the SciPy FAQ, the correct method in all cases where you know you have a NumPy array is to use if x.size: > x = numpy.array() Returns 1, even though the array has zero elements. ), the if statement will incorrectly result in False: > x = numpy.array()īut clearly x exists and is not empty! This result is not what you wanted. However, if that one element happens to be 0 (or 0.0, or False. If you happen to have a NumPy array with exactly one element, the if statement will "work", in the sense that you don't get an error. Use a.any() or a.all()īut at least the case above tells you that it failed. ValueError: The truth value of an array with more than one element is ambiguous. But this doesn't make any sense, so you get a ValueError: > x = numpy.array() The "pythonic" way fails with NumPy arrays because NumPy tries to cast the array to an array of bools, and if x tries to evaluate all of those bools at once for some kind of aggregate truth value. I explain why below, but in short, the preferred method is to use size. You need to be careful with NumPy arrays, because other methods that work fine for lists or other standard containers fail for NumPy arrays. Other methods don't work for NumPy arrays This is the first google hit for "python test empty array" and similar queries, and other people are generalizing the question beyond just lists, so here's a caveat for a different type of sequence that a lot of people use. ![]() If you are not happy with ExpertGPS within the first 30 days of purchase, we will happily refund your purchase. ![]() If you have mistakenly ordered ExpertGPS twice, please contact support with the details and we will refund the second order. Unlike the films mentioned above, which have closed out the entirety of their story (with the exception of their assumed ending), Don’t Worry Darling bites off more than it can chew, creating so many questions (Alice's fate in the real world, the fate of Victory, how Frank’s death impacts the project in the real world, etc) that it has no intention of returning to address or provide closure to. This is primarily due to the fact that it doesn’t resolve its problems. Don’t Worry Darling follows the assumed ending outline and has a potentially great conclusion but fails to provide enough information to leave the audience satisfied with where the story stops. ![]() Don’t Worry Darling just leaves the audience wanting more. They leave us wanting more but convey through their endings that we don’t need any continuation of the story. There isn’t anything up for question except for the question – does the top fall?Īs an audience, we are satisfied with these endings. We know the stakes of Inception and the outcomes of both realities for Cobb as the movie spends its time establishing them. Does the top keep spinning, or will it fall and prove Cobb ( Leonardo DiCaprio) is awake and truly reunited with his children? The screen cuts to black before we get our answer – but it allows us to assume and theorize for ourselves. Movies like Inceptionand Prisoners(spoilers for these films ahead… watch them if you haven’t!) have assumed endings. These endings leave audiences with a rush of adrenaline and while they paint a pretty definitive end, there is no way to confirm the fate of the characters. Assumed endings are different from a cliffhanger in the sense that they don’t promise a follow-up or continuation of the story – and they’re better off for it. Given the proper buildup and storytelling, assumed endings can be the perfect way to end a film. It’s an assumed ending, meaning we as the audience are supposed to interpret or infer what happens next. But when Alice starts to notice things out of the ordinary - things she wasn’t supposed to see, she begins to question her reality and the suave, mysterious leader of the Victory Project, Frank ( Chris Pine). At night, the men return home to a perfectly cooked, several-course dinner and a doting wife as the cycle resets to begin again the next day. ![]() Jack leaves for work every day along with the other men of Victory, leaving their wives to stay at home where they clean, cook, and gossip with neighbors. Set in the idyllic 1950s, Don’t Worry Darling centers around Victory residents Alice ( Florence Pugh) and Jack ( Harry Styles) as they live their perfect lives. Despite mediocre reviews, it has performed fairly well at the box office, currently standing at a worldwide gross of $86 million. The disadvantage of the Historical Cost Principle: It is a simple method that is easy to understand by management, accountant, and auditor. Verifying the value of assets or liabilities based on a cost basis is much easier than market value. This accounting treatment is also less affected by accounting assumptions. The advantage of the historical cost principle is that the users of financial statements could know exactly the original value of Assets or Liabilities in the financial statements as it requires no adjustments. However, based on IFRS, Building was initially booked at its original cost and then depreciated based on its economic use or at the fair value per the revaluation model. The value of PPE is stated at the net book value or fair value after valuation. Example of Historical Cost Principle:įor example, under the historical cost principle in IFRS, PPE per IFRS requires to record initially at cost, and the value will be reduced by depreciation or impairment. We want to clarify this because some online resources stated that if the items are recorded at the historical cost, then the value of those items will not change subsequently. Yet, it is the basis on which the value of the items is recorded at the historical cost. It is incorrect to say that the historical cost accounting principle requires no change in the value of items in the Financial Statements. However, some items require no change in their value subsequently. Recognizing some items of assets or liabilities is required to record at the historical cost and the subsequent measure at the fair value. This principle is used in both IFRS (the Principle Base) and US GAAP ( Rule Base). The Historical cost accounting principles are used mainly to record and measure the value of items in the balance sheet rather than items in the Income statements. The concept of the historical cost principle is that the assets are recorded based on the price at the time they are purchased, and the liabilities are recorded based on the values expected to pay at the original value rather than market value or inflation-adjusted value. ![]() But, here are some significant features of this game: The features remain common to all the versions of this game.
